Homo Camcordus, a new movie-text by Yiannis Isidorou

poster01Homo camcordus is a deeply political and poetic visual essay, about the passion of recording that is central in the way we experience and interpret the contemporary world.
The movie is organized around the essay as a personal associative journey through the city and its people showing how through recording we become “homo camcordus” and what the habitus of this new type of man is. The movie is seeking to depict a coherent commentary on the human potential for interpreting the world, and at the same time it is a critical investigation of the consequent dystopian realizations of the world’s change.

Opening: Thursday, April 19, 2018. 20:00
Duration: 19.4 – 5.5.2018

Yannis Gregoriades and Yannis Isidorou are celebrating ten years of collaboration. As herald to a larger project, they are presenting ten new artworks. The exhibition Δecades signifies their ongoing dialogue on the issues of memory and loss, return and, also, of fixed beliefs as negative (self-)definitions.

The subject matter which concerns them is shaped by paradoxical materials-processes, by an associative juxtaposition that attempts to establish their own reflective space and disengage their position from collective knowledge: a rapprochement with the singular; forgetfulness as the mechanism of a constant reconfiguration.
Instances which subvert narrative, that foreground the space, the shape and the material and endeavour to highlight synchronicity and coexistence.

The book IS OUT NOW!

sdv-nicecover-alternative1Nice! Is Return Possible
22 x 16cm, 328 pages
a bilingual (gr/eng) anthology
about the possibilities of return

“When referring to the return, we mean both a specific cognitive process but also the content of memory itself, the memories, their re-investment with meaning in the present. Their effect. Memories, the recollection of time-space, is an indissociable part of our self-awareness, the core of our personal history. Memory and our relationship to it, are an essential part of our identity. In many cases, however, the perception of the past, together with its future projections, may prove so frighteningly distorted and traumatic as to in essence deprive one of control of one’s own life and transform the subject into an object, an obstacle to the very self. It can annul the prospect of experience and reduce it to an automatization, a spasm.”
